Santos Tour is a specialized tour operator focused on environmental sustainability. Our organization is comprised of two general programs. One program, called Green Communities, hosts volunteer groups (generally from abroad) engaged in community service projects throughout the Los Santos Region in Central Costa Rica. The other program, under the Santos Tour moniker, offers low-impact eco-tour packages.

Santos Tour was established in 2003 as a community support organization in the Los Santos Region by two college students who were born and raised in the Area. Jonathan Cerdas and Carlos Marin launched Santos Tour as part of their thesis in tourism at Cartago Community College, The pristine beauty of their native land inspired them to develop an organization to support local communities through environmentally-friendly, rural tours and adventures. We combine these two elements with a concern for both the social issues of the local communities and environmental conservation. Santos Projects provides inspiration, education and environmental consciousness to more than seventy families who otherwise would not have such opportunities due to the remote location of their communities.

What we do

We believe that working with local communities directly is the most effective way to raise awareness about the environmental and conservation challenges. Los Santos Region has been promoted as one of the best destinations for rural community tourism through its participation in various national and international tourism fairs.

We have many objectives within the communities of the Los Santos. The major goal is to transform the vision of community members and show them that there are many sustainable methods to improve their way of living, thus meeting both immediate and long-term goals. This entails community development projects such as road and classroom construction, and sustainable development projects such as permaculture farming and innovative recycling programs. Volunteers are a key element in this process, because they provide labor and financial resources to be able to undertake these projects.

Santos Tour has received certification from Costa Rica National University as the only local organization supporting the development of sustainable farms in the region. Santos Projects receives support from US, Australian, European and Canadian volunteer groups.
